Bounce Back, Black Woman! | Healing, Relationships, & Resilience

Life can break your heart in more ways than one.

Whether you’re navigating heartbreak, grief, loneliness, burnout, betrayal, emotional exhaustion, relationship struggles, identity shifts, or simply trying to find your way back to yourself — Bounce Back, Black Woman!® is a space for honest conversations about healing, resilience, relationships, reinvention, and emotional growth.

Hosted by Del Smith, M.S., resilience coach, author, and podcast host, this show blends storytelling, emotional insight, practical encouragement, faith-rooted wisdom, and real-life reflection to help women move forward together, one intentional step at a time.

This isn’t surface-level motivation or toxic positivity.

We talk honestly about:
• healing after heartbreak and loss
• relationships and emotional patterns
• confidence, identity, and self-worth
• grief, loneliness, and life transitions
• burnout, overwhelm, and starting over
• emotional resilience and personal growth
• boundaries, reinvention, and rediscovering yourself

Faith is part of the foundation here — not loud, forced, or performative — but present as strength, wisdom, grounding, and hope during difficult seasons of life.

New episodes are released every Tuesday and Friday (with occasional video versions), with conversations designed to help women feel seen, supported, encouraged, and less alone in whatever they’re carrying.

Because at the end of the day…

It’s not just you.
✨ It’s not just me.
✨ It’s US.

The Weight of Unhealed Emotions from Trauma
Some of us aren’t tired because we’re doing too much — we’re tired because we’re holding too much. When emotions go unprocessed, they don’t disappear. They get heavier.
In Part 4 of the Trauma Series, we’re exploring the cost of emotional suppression — how grief, anger, shame, and fear show up in our daily lives, and how faith gives us permission to feel without falling apart.
We’ll talk about:
What happens when we avoid or suppress emotions
The “Big Four” feelings that follow trauma
Why Jesus wept — and what that means for us
How to release emotional weight and make space for peace
✨ Friend, emotions aren’t weakness. They’re sacred invitations to heal.

Recognizing Trauma in Your Own Life (The Signs You Might Be Carrying More Than You Think)
Trauma doesn’t just live in the past — it often shows up in our present. From people-pleasing and perfectionism to overworking, isolation, or control, these are more than habits — they’re survival strategies we learned in hard seasons.
In Part 3 of the Trauma Series, we’re holding up the mirror. I’m breaking down how trauma shows up emotionally, physically, and spiritually, and how to begin recognizing the patterns that may still be shaping your life today.
We’ll talk about:
Common trauma responses that look “normal”
How the body keeps score when the heart stays guarded
How early experiences shape adult responses
The faith connection between stillness and safety
Why awareness is the first step toward true healing
✨ Friend, you can’t heal what you won’t name — and you can’t name what you won’t see. It’s time to look inward with grace, not guilt.

The 3 Types of Trauma (and How They Show Up in Our Lives)
Trauma isn’t one-size-fits-all. For some women, it’s the shock of sudden loss. For others, it’s the slow grind of prolonged struggles. And for many, it’s the tangled pain of relationships or environments that chip away at self-worth.
In Part 2 of my new 6-part Trauma Series, I’m breaking down the 3 main types of trauma — acute, chronic, and complex — with real stories from my own journey. Together, we’ll explore how trauma impacts our lives, why it still lingers, and how God’s presence shows up in the middle of it all.
In this episode we break down about:
The difference between acute, chronic, and complex trauma
Real-life examples of how each shows up
Why these categories matter for your healing
How Isaiah 43:2 reminds us of God’s presence in every kind of trauma
✨ Friend, your trauma doesn’t have to define you. Naming it is the first step to healing it.

The Struggles We Don’t Call “Trauma” (But Should)
When you hear the word trauma, do you only think of catastrophic events like accidents, disasters, or devastating losses? The truth is, trauma often hides in plain sight — in workplaces, relationships, family dynamics, and even in the quiet disappointments we carry alone.
In this kickoff to my new 6-part Trauma Series, I’m breaking down what trauma really means, why so many women minimize their pain, and how naming your experience can be the key to beginning your healing.
We’ll talk about:
What trauma is (and isn’t)
Why “little t” trauma is often overlooked
Real-life examples of hidden wounds women carry
The danger of pretending we’re “fine” or “over it”
How God meets us in all kinds of brokenness
✨ Friend, trauma isn’t just the big events — it’s the silent hurts you’ve carried, too. And when you can see them for what they are, you can finally start to heal.

This week, I faced a terrifying moment: my grand-dog’s sudden decline left me preparing for the possibility of putting him down. The emotions were heavy, the fear was real, and the trauma of past losses came rushing back.
But this time, something was different. I wasn’t the same woman I was a year ago. I’ve been building resilience — and in that moment, my spiritual gifts, my faith, and even my personality wiring carried me in ways I didn’t expect.
In this episode, I’m sharing:
The raw story of my grand-dog’s health crisis and miraculous recovery
How my spiritual gifts (Wisdom, Discernment, Faith, and Hospitality) showed up in real time
Why understanding my MBTI wiring (ENFP/ENTP) helped me process the crisis differently
The truth about why resilience hurts — and why it’s still worth building
💛 Takeaway: Resilience doesn’t erase the pain. It equips us to carry it differently.
📝 Journal Prompt: Think about the last time you faced a crisis. Which of your gifts, strengths, or faith practices helped you get through it? Where do you sense God inviting you to grow stronger for the next storm?
Scripture reference: 2 Corinthians 12:9
